Collage has allowed Leanne Ziler to combine her love of art with her love of thrift stores and repurposing. From her London, Ontario home studio, Leanne works intuitively to combine colours, lines and textures, to create new stories from old. She loves working with line continuation, puzzling scraps together to combine into one new image. While she titles her art with a concept, she also wants the viewer to find their own story in her work. Most of her current work contains stitching, which reminds Leanne of her past, slow stitching with her Grandmother, doing crafts and imagining objects as a craft or art supply in a new way.
Collage has also given Leanne the great gift of community, finding incredible support from other artists in the world of collage. Collage is mostly collaboration. As an artist we collaborate with the original author, photographer, artists or printer of whatever paper we are using. Collage artists also collaborate through mail art, scrap exchanges, add and pass, and challenges. An example of collage collaboration can be viewed in Leanne’s recently published book “Stick A Bird On It: a Collage Recipe Collaboration.”
